Had a change in your circumstances?
We value your membership, so please take time to update your details, particularly
if you have had a change of circumstances since joining. This can
be anything from moving home, workplace, a change of job title, employer
etc.
Many members assume that changes are recorded automatically via the employer.
Unfortunately this is not the case - we need our members to advise us directly.
Members who have elected to pay their subscriptions directly from their
wages (DOCAS)
should check their payslips regularly to ensure that the correct amount of
subscription is actually being deducted. In some cases, employees have assumed they
are union members when, in fact, their subscriptions have ceased, due to changes
not notified to the branch. This often results in their membership being lapsed and
they may find they are not covered should they subsequently require union assistance.
Please think about how you could become more involved - have a chat to us
about different roles within your union -e.g. stewards, lifelong learning reps, health and
safety reps, workplace contacts to name a few. We support and offer training, paid expenses
and have a facility agreement which allows time off for union duties.
Becoming an activist can also enhance your personal and working life development.
Take the plunge and come on in Help run your branch!
We're still in the process of adding information that
we think members will want to have at hand.
Here's your opportunity to tell us what you think will be useful -use
the 'Contact Us' comment form - we'd welcome
your suggestions.
Did YOU vote - in the NHS Pay Ballot?
The results of the pay ballot indicate that nationally only 17% of members
used their vote!
We would be interested to hear your views.
Did you receive a ballot paper? – if not, please let us know as it suggests our database
details for you may be incorrect.
Please contact us on: 01271 322353 or you can use the 'Contact
us' page.
If you can let us have your membership number or
NI number it will speed up the process, but if not please still contact us and we
can search our records.
Of interest to any previous NHS employees returning to NHS work:
Agenda for Change - North Devon Healthcare Trust
Annual Leave - Calculation of Reckonable Service
Total aggregated NHS Service is used
Broken periods of service added together to give a total
eg: A person who worked for the NHS for 5 years, then left for 2 years and rejoined
3 years ago the reckonable service would be 8 years (not 10 yrs). However, the Trust has the discretion to take into account periods of employment with employers outside the NHS, where these are judged to be relevant to NHS employment.
UNISON is the major union in North Devon Health Trust. We also represent
members in Devon PCT, the Devon Partnership Trust and Sodexho.
We represent more than 900 employees working for the NHS, and for private
contractors, in the North Devon area.
Keep the NHS working
We are a campaigning union and have marched along the high street in Barnstaple
raising the profile of the difficulties faced in the NHS. Although we have
had record levels of investment, the introduction of competition and the
increasing involvement of the private sector are putting your NHS at risk.
The Government's market style reforms have led to instability and
financial debt, especially here in North Devon.
NHS patients and staff all have concern that more changes could undermine
the quality of healthcare. (... more)
