As a UNISON member, you're a part of your local North Devon Health branch. It's your main source of advice and support, and the most important link between the union and members like yourself. Some members are elected by the workforce to play different roles on the branch. You don't have to have any previous experience, and full training and ongoing support is provided.
Chairperson:
Presides at all meetings of the branch and branch committee and ensures that business is properly conducted. May also raise matters with management and act as a spokesperson for the branch.
Secretary:
Co-ordinates the activities of the branch and is involved in local negations with management. Acts as a spokesperson for the branch. Ensures the smooth running of the branch.
Treasurer:
Keeps the branch financial records, signs cheques and produces regular financial statements. Responsible for managing the branch budget.
Education Co-ordinator:
Liaises with regional education staff and other branch officers to encourage and provide education and training for branch activists, and lifelong learning opportunities for members.
Equality Officer:
Committee member with responsibility for equal opportunities. Advises on and supports the development of self-organised groups. Advises the branch on equality issues.
Health and Safety Officer:
Responsible for liaising with health and safety representatives and for co-ordinating work on health and safety.
Communications Officer:
Helps create a positive image for the branch among members, potential members and the public. Produces newssheets and bulletins and ensures publicity and campaign materials are distributed.
International Officer:
Ensures members are informed of UNISON policy on international matters. Liaises with solidarity organisations and campaigns that the branch is affiliated to.
Young Members' Officer:
Preferably aged under 27, and works with other branch officers organising young members and making sure issues that concern them are raised by the branch.
Welfare Officer:
Ensures that members seeking welfare assistance receive a prompt, supportive and effective response.
Auditor:
Undertakes an annual audit of the branch financial records.
